Kitschy Home Inspiration: Ghost World.

The movie Ghost World (2001) stars Thora Birch, Steve Buscemi, and Scarlett Johansson. It is about two girls trying to figure out what to do with their lives and adjust to their new adulthood after graduating from high school. However, it is not necessarily the plot that gets us excited, but rather the kitschy retro settings it takes place in. There is just so much to look at, you don't even know where to start!

Here, take a look at these screen shots and I think you will know what we mean...

Steve Buscemi's character, Seymour, has shelves and shelves full of the most amazing 40's, 50's, and 60's record collection, which he keeps in his eclectically decorated tangerine colored "record room." Check out those fantastic Hawaiian barkcloth curtains! As soon as Thora Birch's character, Enid, walks into the room she declares that it is her dream room. We totally agree.

The barkcloth curtains continue into his kitchen along with a original mid century cabinets, a vintage refrigerator and cute red vinyl kitchen chairs! The mint walls off-set all of his vintage accessories perfectly! Love it.

He definitely doesn't have a lack of retro art... if anything he almost has a lack of wall space! Enid is totally mesmerized and takes time to look at every old photograph, and I have a feeling that if we were in her shoes we would be doing the same. Also, check out that old gramophone! A-maze-ing. Oh Seymour, we love your quirky style.

As the movie finishes up a final vintage touch is thrown in: this cute round suitcase.
Perfection.

  5. I used to watch this film religiously once a month, without fail. I should start that up again. It propelled Thora Birch to 'coolest girl in the world' status in my books. :)
