We just got back a few days ago from our little getaway in Bangkok and we seriously had the greatest time! The weather was hot, the food was delicious and the shopping was amazing! The flood hadn't even affected the areas of town that we stayed in! We were so lucky!
We packed a lot of stuff into our nine days in Thailand and documented our travels with many many photos! So sit back, relax, and take a peek at what our quick getaway consisted of...
We arrived in Bangkok at 11:00pm after 30+ hours of traveling (which meant that it was 11:00am back home! Yikes!) But we weren't even tired because we were just so excited to finally be there! I was especially excited because it was my first time being in Asia! (and it totally lived up to all my expectations! It was amazing!) As soon as our plane landed Erin and I took a taxi to Khao San Road and found a hotel to stay at. We quickly ditched our suitcases and hit up the street markets for a little late night shopping!
Who has time to be tired when there is so much fun shopping to be done?!
The first night we shopped until about 3:00am and then grabbed some Pad Thai from the street and ate it in bed in our hotel room. By the time it was 4:00am we were completely ready to crash!
The next morning we grabbed some breakfast and Erin took us exploring. She has been to Thailand many times before so she knew exactly where to go and what to see! I was so thankful to have her with me to show me the ropes! We spent the first few days doing lots of walking around, shopping, eating, and sight seeing!
All of the food was soo delicious! We ate lots of pad thai, spicy curries, fried rice, and fruit! I should also mention that I have never tasted fresher fruit in my entire life! Mmm... We even got a little bit adventureous and tried Stingray Jerky, which tastes a lot better than it sounds! Haha!
It was so so hot the entire time we were there so we drank a lot of fresh fruit shakes to stay cool. The lemon shakes and watermelon shakes were absolutely mind-blowing! We also drank some ice cold Chang and Singha beers (which are the most popular local beers in Thailand.)
In a matter of only two days we managed to do quite a bit of shopping... Check out our haul! Ha! We found lots of amazing dresses and tops, and we also picked up a bunch of fun t-shirts for our husbands! So needless to say, our bags were full.
At night, once our long days of shopping were done, we relaxed with a delicious meal on a patio! The temperature never cooled off, not even at night, so we enjoyed sitting outside into the late night hours relaxing and un-winding. It was the perfect way to end a busy day.
After 2 days in Bangkok we decided that it might be a good idea to stay somewhere else because we kept hearing flood warnings. The water was supposed to crest a few days after we got there, so we decided to play it safe and head out of Bangkok even though there wasn't any water on the streets where we were staying. So we packed up our bags full of our new clothes and hopped on a flight to a little island in the Gulf of Thailand called Koh Samui where we would continue our little getaway!
Stay tuned in the coming days for more of our travel adventures...
