Shasta love.

Before Erin and I bought our 1956 Cardinal trailer, my husband, Emery, and I bought our own camper trailer: a 1959 Shasta Airflyte. This had been my dream trailer for years and I had always kept my eye out for one for sale within my price range. One day I was looking on my favorite vintage trailer sales website, Tin Can Tourists, and I found the perfect Shasta for sale! I immediately fell in love with everything about it, from the little wings to the turquoise exterior. We knew we had to have it, and the only thing standing in our way was the fact that it was in Michigan and we were in Winnipeg. So we did a little schedule shifting and we managed to work it out so we had 3 days to drive the 17 hour drive to Michigan, pick up the trailer, and then turn around and drive the 17 hours back home. We knew it was gonna be tight, but that it would totally be worth it in the end!

 We drove through the Great Lakes and made a few stops along the way to check out the waves. It was unbelievably windy and at one point it even started to snow on the beach! It was very beautiful but the wind made it a little bit trickier to tow the trailer back because it started to sway more than usual. But we powered through it, and before we knew it, we were home sweet home.

We are currently in the process of restoring her back to her original glory and we want to keep everything as authentic as possible! Last summer Emery replaced all of the birch paneling inside and gave it a fresh coat of amber shellac, but our renovation plans had been put on hold for the first part of the summer due to all of the work we had been putting into Olive's renovation. Hopefully we will have more time to get some more restorations done later on in the season, once things settle down a bit. But until then, she will remain nestled in our backyard behind our picket fence and between our little garage and our tall trees.
