"House of the Future"

We stumbled across these vintage Motorola ads from the early 60's awhile back, but we saved them until today to share with you guys! We simply can't get enough of the retro "House of the Future" paintings by Charles Scridde. These advertisements created mostly between 1960 and 1963, were often seen in Life Magazine and The Saturday Evening Post.

All of the photos were found here, but can also be seen in the book, "Window to the Future: The Golden Age of Television which you can buy here!
This one reminds us of Jurassic Park, but in the best way possible!

This one is our favorite! Wishing that tv set & wooden backdrop were in our homes!

If only we had levels & a view like this...

Just doing some aerobics for the whole neighborhood to see.

Again with the view! The interior of this home is amazing!

 Best.
TV stand.
EVER.

Where are these incredible homes?!

Dream home in the forest.

Underwater home in the future? Yes please!

  1. The past future was perfect. Even if you had to do your exercises in the shell of a greenhouse.

  15. The underwater home reminded me of an underwater hotel that is (was?) being constructed in Fiji.

  17. Awesome! I want to recreate that record-listening room with the giant orange shag circle rug! Oh, to have the home of the 1960s future.

Lisa, that Poseidon Underwater Resort is craaaaaaazy! I found a link saying you can stay there for a mere $15,000. Per person! Holy jeez.

  21. Amazing!! I think I just solved my "where to mount the TV" problem. Mounted to a board, and hanging from the ceiling, of course! Why didn't I think of that?
