Tips for creating cute displays!

One of our favorite parts about running our own shop is getting the chance to be creative and change up the displays as often as we like! In fact, we like our work so much that we often take it home with us and create more fun displays in our homes! We by no means consider ourselves to be experts on the subject, but we have acquired a bit of knowledge over the years and thought it would be fun to share it with you today. So here are four simple tips for creating cute displays in your homes:

1. Don't be afraid to mix and match colors!
Just because the colors aren't an exact match, doesn't mean that they don't "go together." Have fun with grouping colors together, don't get caught up with silly rules of what goes and what doesn't. Play around with different color groupings and after awhile you will see what palettes you are drawn to the most. Displays often take a bit of tweaking and may not even be completed in one sitting (which is often the case for us!) Our best advice for you is that if you're having a creative block just take a break from it for a bit, and then come back later with fresh eyes and you will probably see things in a better light than you saw earlier!

2. Having everything displayed all on the same level is boring.
Displaying things on different levels creates way more interest. I bought this shelf a few years ago at Ikea and it is great for creating little groupings of displays in the cubbies! If you don't have something like this, another alternative would be to hang some plain white shelves at different heights on the wall, and create different levels with the items you're displaying. A good example of this is the different heights of the theromoses contrasting the height of the tiny deer. (in above photo) So simple, but so effective at catching the eye!

3. I don't know about you guys, but we love fake plants.
Pretty much anytime we are stumped on what to add to a display we always see green (leaves, not envy, ha.) Yes, we do have real plants in our homes too, but we have been known to get so caught up in our busy schedules that we forget to water them (oops!) so sometimes it's just easier to go with plastic ones. When we are at craft stores, we always stop to check out the fake flowers section, but usually they seem a bit on the pricey side for what you get. Wanna know our favorite place to pick up fake flowers and plants? The dollarstore! People often forget how many cute things can be found there for cheap if you take the time to look!

4. Be a bookworm.
Earlier we talked about adding different heights to your display, and another great way to do this is by using book stacks and placing your items on top of them! Pick a few of your favorites with pretty bindings and arrange a fun little stick to act as a little stage to display your cute vintage treasures! If you don't have many books and don't feel like spending a pretty penny to acquire a library, not to worry because you can just hit up your local thrift store and find plenty of gems there for cheap! Check out the vintage children's book section, that is usually a goldmine for pretty pastel covered books with cute retro fonts. If we ever need any filler books for our displays that is our go-to place!

We hope this inspires you to jazz up your place this fall! Happy decorating!
