Happy weekend!

Hey guys, it's June tomorrow! Whoa, can  you believe it?! That means that summer is upon us very shortly! Woo woo! That also means that I will be spending my weekend finishing up moving, unpacking boxes, and setting up my new place (yay! finally!) but there is always time to share a quick dose of inspiration to get your Friday started off on the right foot!
We don't know about you guys, but now all we wanna do is throw on our swimsuits and hit up the beach!

How fun are these retro shot glasses? Too bad we missed our chance to snap 'em up!

Can this be my next birthday cake?

The fanciest popsicles we ever did see!

Hope you all have a fun weekend! Do you have any exciting plans?

Dreamy outdoor spaces.

Now that patio season is finally upon us we thought it would be fun to share some beautiful ideas and inspiration for your next outdoor dinner party. (Aren't outdoor parties just the best?)

This combination of rustic place settings, wild flowers, and a lace table cloth gives off such a whimsical romantic feel. So pretty.

The perfect floral centerpiece.

Love this canopy of light bulbs. How gorgeous would this look in the evening light?

The perfect backyard picnic brunch with friends. I really like how all of the benches are facing each other! Makes for a wonderful circle of conversation.

I already have one of these wicker swings hanging in my living room, but what a great idea to move it outside on a sunny summer afternoon!

Happy hosting! XO

It's all in the collar.

It's no secret that both Stef and I love a good collar! We know that a peter pan collar, or any oversized collar can be over the top in the cute factor and sometimes it's nice to not feel like we're dressing like 5 year olds, but who are we kidding, sometimes we just can't help ourselves! After perusing Etsy, we thought it fitting to show you our favorites out there at the moment! Prepare to fall in love!
This is by far our favorite collar to date! I need to learn how to sew so that I can recreate this collar!

A little lady-like neck tie on this vintage dress.

This one is petal-perfect! This shop has so many cute dresses we would love to get our hands on!

There is a pattern for this adorable dress here!

This yellow bow is the perfect add on to a classic black and white dress.

How fun is this collar!?

The perfect dress for a garden party...you'd blend right in!

A little flower power never hurt anybody, right?

Imagine showing up to a party in this little number! All eyes would definitely be on you!

Such a girly dress!

A little nautical love thrown in for good measure!

Nesting wishlist.

Lately I have been daydreaming about fun new items to incorporate into the decor at my new home, so I decided to do a little bit of 'window shopping' on the wonderful internet and it didn't take me long to compile a little nesting wishlist! Here are some cute items that caught my eye:

clockwise from top left:

Blumenfest poster: I love love love the retro flower graphics on this poster! I'm pretty sure that this needs to be hanging in my new dining room.
Cathrine Holm bowl: Wouldn't this bowl filled with lemons make the perfect centerpiece?
1950's French tea towels: I'm really into the classic simplicity of this set.
Cathrine Holm salt and pepper shaker set: Whoa. I didn't even know these existed. How incredible!
Mrs. Meyer's household cleaner: Am I the only one who gets excited at the thought of new cleaning supplies? I'm not gonna lie, one of the things that I'm most excited about is having new and different things to clean! Ha.
Edison bulb pendant lamp: I've always had a soft spot for these lightbulbs so we decided to instal some pendants over our bar top. Yay!
Pimm's Blackberry & Elderflower liqueur: I have really been into Pimm's cocktails lately and I think this limited edition mix would taste absolutely delicious and would also make the perfect housewarming gift.. *hint hint*
Potted plants: My new kitchen has not one, but two (!) big sunny windows so I am really looking forward to filling my windowsills with lots of potted plants and herbs.
Retro juice set: There is something so nostalgic and cheerful about these orange juice set.
Brookfield Zoo print: This is a reproduction print of a promotional poster for the Brookfield Zoo from the late 1930's and I think it is just the cutest! (I may have already ordered it...)
Set of three farmhouse white enamel pots with red trim: I already have a few pieces like this so these pots would be the perfect addition to my growing collection.

This mid-century home is so stunning!

Circolo in New York. How amazing would this be as a breakfast nook?

How incredible does this pork souvlaki with a pineapple & cucumber salsa look? I know i'm definitely going to be trying this recipe out in the near future!

My rainy long weekend.

This past long weekend was just what the doctor ordered. I spent lots of time with family and friends, did some cooking and baking, and overall was pretty productive! I'm so excited because today I am driving to Chicago with 5 of my girlfriends for a bachelorette/birthday weekend. I've never left the airport in Chicago so I'm so curious to see what it's like! Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations of places or things we should go/eat/do/drink/shop?
On Sunday I had my family over for a belated Mother's Day afternoon and it was one of those perfect rainy days. We had lunch first and then my mom, sister and I headed out to go green house hopping! When I had a cat, I was never able to keep real plants alive, but now that she's gone (sad face) I've been going a little crazy with plant purchases!

We started with lunch of turkey burgers, 3 delicious kinds of salads, as well as plenty of cheese and good wine. I set up a table in our new living room and for once hosting a party just made sense in our home! It didn't feel too hot and hectic crammed in the kitchen where our dining room table is, and now I can hardly wait to start planning future dinner parties!

Here are some of the plants that I potted (in the rain).

Since it's been raining a lot this past week I've been spending good quality time in my kitchen. Last week I made this mango/raspberry crumble and it was so tasty!

I bought these adorable flamingo glasses at Ikea the other day! Aren't they perfect for Summer?
We've been adding lots of adorable new things to the shop over the past week, and we just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that made orders and are supporting us! We will continue to add lots of cute things in the next few weeks, so watch out! To check it out you can search "thelovelycloset" on Instagram.
Have a great weekend!

Home progress update.

So guys, I can't believe that I will be moving in only one week. Gahhhh! Holy moly, where has May gone?! It's officially crunch time for getting all renovations and packing done! I'm not gonna lie, this has been a pretty hectic and stressful month because on top of moving, there has also been soo much stuff happening with the blog and store (all exciting things, but busy nonetheless) so I am really looking forward to being moved in and settled so I can take some much needed time to relax. Sometimes it feels like there just aren't enough hours in the day! Haha!

Now, that being said, our new place is really starting to look absolutely incredible! It actually looks like a home now and I am sooooo excited to start moving my things in and decorating (aka the fun part!) I will also be sharing before & after photos once I am all settled but for now I thought I would give you a little peek into what has been going on over the last couple months...

One of the reasons that we fell in love with this house was because it had all of the original details such as sinks, cabinets, light fixtures, etc. We really wanted to try to find an old home that was in as original condition as possible so we could do our best to preserve its historic beauty. We both absolutely loved the old farmhouse style kitchen but it did need a little bit of work (okay, so that turned out to be a bit of an understatement.) Some of the cabinets were broken and the layout definitely wasn't making the maximum use of the space so we tore them all out and re-configured them into a much more pleasing layout. I am so excited for all of the counter space and storage that I'm gonna have!

We also decided to do a subway tile back splash underneath the cabinets in the kitchen. I had done tiling in the bathroom at our previous house years ago and apparently it's like riding a bike - it came back to me very quickly! I'm so in love with how it turned out, it has such a clean fresh look.

Color decisions are so tricky! I don't want to be too impulsive and pick a color and then end up re-painting it a few months down the road because it's not the right shade or too bright (that has happened to me more times than I'd like to admit.) So far I have only decided on two rooms: the kitchen and the bathroom. I have always wanted a sunny yellow kitchen so I picked a very pretty soft buttery yellow for the walls. As for the bathroom, I went with a warm seafoam/mint color because in my opinion, you really can't go wrong with a pretty mint.

Since the kitchen tiling went so well, I decided to move on to the bathroom. This was a bit trickier because, as I'm sure any of you with older homes know, none of the walls are even. I did my best to keep all of the tiles level and in the end it turned out looking great! Man, I love the clean look of those subway tiles, they instantly brighten up a space.

I had found this gorgeous turquoise blue sink years ago while thrifting and I just couldn't leave it behind even though I didn't have any use for it at the time. So it has sat waiting patiently in my basement for the perfect moment to make an appearance and I think that the time has officially come! The bathroom sink in our place needs to be replaced anyways, so I think this would be the perfect addition to our new home.

Alright lovelies, that's all for now! The moving countdown is on! Eep! Wish me luck!

Our MTV Instamission: #MTVfullcolour

Wow, you guys!! Words cannot express how blown away we are from your overwhelming show of support for our project with MTV Canada & Sony Xperia that we announced yesterday! Thank you so much! We seriously have the best readers! Now it's our chance to give back to you! If you participate in our Instamission you are automatically entered for a chance to win a brand new Sony Xperia Smartphone as well as a $4000 travel voucher! Woo woo! Curious? Here's the low down:

It's pretty simple really. MTV Canada and Sony Xperia teamed up to create a series of fun Instagram Missions to inspire people to be creative and have fun with Smartphone photography. Our mission is "Full Colour" so basically we are looking for people to find inspiration in the bright colourful beauty in everyday life and capture it on Instagram. Be sure to hashtag all of your entries with #MTVfullcolour and at the end of this three week project we will pick our favorite entry to win a new Sony Xperia Smartphone and also an amazing $4000 travel voucher for an adventure of a lifetime! Yay!

Pretty rad hey? For more details and rules and regulations be sure to check out: www.mtv.ca/instamissions.

To get you inspired we thought we would share a few behind-the-scenes shots from our weekend filming with MTV:
As we said earlier we had three primary locations for shooting the film, one of which was at my house! The timing was a little bit tricky for that because I had already packed up my entire living room in preparation for my move, so everything had to be unpacked and re-set up the for the shoot but hey, you do what you gotta do! (especially for MTV!) All of the film that was shot in my house turned out so amazing so I am definitely glad that it worked out!

Next we did some filming with our trailer which was brought out of hibernation for the first time this year! Awh, we missed our little Olive. We picked some of our favorite vintage pieces from our personal collections to make the shelving displays (so no, unfortunately those items aren't for sale!) Thankfully the weather co-operated with us so we were able to get some great shots both inside and outside the trailer.

And last but not least, of course we did some filming in our vintage shop! We had the store closed for the first half of the day so we could tackle our interviews without any interruptions but by mid-afternoon we opened up to the public and got some really great footage of the shop in action. Whew! It was a total whirlwind of a weekend but we had the greatest time working with all of the MTV Crew. They were so relaxed and fun that it made shooting a total breeze!

Just in case you are still a bit unsure of what type of photos we are looking for with our Instamission, our good friend and fellow blogger, Andrew Chipman, got together with us and made a great post for the MTV Fora blog about what it is like to live in Full Colour. Be sure to read his lovely how-to post!

Alright friends, now go out, have fun and be creative! Best of luck to you!
May the brightest and cheeriest photo win!!
