This past long weekend was just what the doctor ordered. I spent lots of time with family and friends, did some cooking and baking, and overall was pretty productive! I'm so excited because today I am driving to Chicago with 5 of my girlfriends for a bachelorette/birthday weekend. I've never left the airport in Chicago so I'm so curious to see what it's like! Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations of places or things we should go/eat/do/drink/shop?
On Sunday I had my family over for a belated Mother's Day afternoon and it was one of those perfect rainy days. We had lunch first and then my mom, sister and I headed out to go green house hopping! When I had a cat, I was never able to keep real plants alive, but now that she's gone (sad face) I've been going a little crazy with plant purchases!
We started with lunch of turkey burgers, 3 delicious kinds of salads, as well as plenty of cheese and good wine. I set up a table in our new living room and for once hosting a party just made sense in our home! It didn't feel too hot and hectic crammed in the kitchen where our dining room table is, and now I can hardly wait to start planning future dinner parties!
Here are some of the plants that I potted (in the rain).
Since it's been raining a lot this past week I've been spending good quality time in my kitchen. Last week I made this mango/raspberry crumble and it was so tasty!
I bought these adorable flamingo glasses at Ikea the other day! Aren't they perfect for Summer?
We've been adding lots of adorable new things to the shop over the past week, and we just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that made orders and are supporting us! We will continue to add lots of cute things in the next few weeks, so watch out! To check it out you can search "thelovelycloset" on Instagram.
Have a great weekend!
xo, Erin
Oh my goodness! You will love Chicago! You should definitely go and walk along Navy Pier and even take a ride in one of the boats if they have them up and running. And the museums are great too! As far as a place to eat, you would love Ed Debevicks. It is a 50s style diner where everyone dresses in period clothes and the waitersare way fun. They dance and will joke around with you (maybe even jokingly insult you), but it is a blast! As far as shopping, there is nothing like walking along the "Magnificent Mile" on Michigan Ave. There are a lot of main shops like a Macy's, but there are some fun more quirky things too. Oh, and in case you want to do some fun vintage shopping here is a site that lists the best places in Chicago.

Don't go to Ed Debevics, its a total tourist trap and the food sucks! There are so many great Chicago restaurants to visit don't waste your time there. definitely check out Wicker Park and go to Big Star for the best tacos ever in between shopping breaks! You can grab coffee from wormhole beforehand too. Love the honey bear latte!
DeleteOh you will love Chicago! Bike rentals on Lake Michigan. A fun quick way to see the whole city and get to museums. Best pie in the world in Logan square "bang bang pie shop." (If you're staying in the city you can take the blue line train straight to it. And of course wicker park! Vintage shops everywhere! My favorite shops are Lenny and me and Rudy's roundup. Both are across from each other and you can take the train or taxi :) and of course... Chicago is a huge brunch city. The publican (meat packing district of the city) is amazing. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteGo to Big Star for tacos and margaritas! It is literally the best! It's an old gas station and has the coolest vibes! Their margaritas are delicious and the tacos are super fresh!
ReplyDeleteYou really can't go wrong in Chicago, it is one of the most fun cities to visit! I lived in Logan Square for 3 years, and it was great then, but even more cool stuff is there now. If you get the chance, go check it out! Like "Everyday is Caturday" said, it's right off the blue line (Logan Square stop).
ReplyDeleteGet a breakfast burrito at Lula and great cocktails at the Whistler. Dunlay's has good brunch too! Pop in to shop at Wolfbait for some locally made clothes/accessories/art/gifts.

Not in logan square, but worth a visit (if you want to check out vintage shops): Clothes Optional on N. Clark was always my favorite, and the girls who worked there were super nice.
I'm sure you'll have a blast! If you can get tickets to a Cubs game, that's one of the best Chicago experiences - plus, you'll get to see Wrigley before they mess it up.

DeleteI sadly wasted my time in Chicago I was too young/scared to venture out past the downtown magnificent mile area. The mile is lovely and the art galleries are great. My big livin' it up moment was eating at the cheese cake factory ooh what you do when your 22! I am sure you will have fun. Love the potted plants.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect weekend you had! Have a great time in Chicago!

the flamingos are prefect <3
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things about Chicago is Argo Tea-- several locations throughout the city, a huge variety of tea flavors. Not exactly good for a bachelorette party but maybe the morning after.
ReplyDeleteHot Chocolate in Wicker park is a cool spot, too.
And although it's cliche, it really is that good-- Gino's East Pizza.
Have fun in Chicago. It's one of my favorite places in the world.
Wicker Park for vintage, Bang Bang pie shop in Logan Square for dessert, Cermack Produce in Humbolt Park for fresh produce and really cheap guacamole, The Brown Elephant for resale surprises(you can find really cool stuff or sometimes just junk)in Andersonville. If you must "do" the tourist thing, ride the ferris wheel at Navy Pier and check out the stained glass museum on the bottom floor. Oh,and if you are up early in the morning and anywhere near Grant Park, buy a cup of coffee and just find a place to sit near the water or in the gardens. It will make you forget you are in a huge city to start your day.
ReplyDeleteI *loved* the photos, have fun in Chicago!
ReplyDeleteThe collared shirts were lovely!
