Our retro dream kitchen!

When our minds begin to wander we often find ourselves daydreaming about what our dream retro kitchen would look like... of course it would be filled with plenty of beautiful colors, unique gadgets, and tons of fifties and sixties charm! We decided to compile a little list of what our dream kitchen would look like in a perfect world:

The ABC of Cocktails

I bought this book at a thrift store a few weeks back and it goes perfectly in my new bar cabinet! I was drawn to the colors and the illustrations on the cover, but the inside is just as cute! There are great classic drink recipes as well as tips for hosting parties, and lots of cute little sayings!
Time to go mix ourselves a drink!

Lovely things.

It's time for another round of things we have been loving lately:

1. Cute outline tattoos like this sailboat one and this she & him one.
We have both been itching to get a bit of new ink...

2. This DIY for leather heart patches on leggings. We need to try this!
(Here's a little fun fact for ya, this lovely lady is another fellow Winnipegger! How cool is that?! Be sure to also check out her cute blog.)

3. Bang trims. We are drooling over these thick blunt cuts! We are definitely digging these looks this season. (and starting to get that itch to chop our hair again...eee! maybe before our trip?)

4. This beautiful book is at the top of our must-read list!

5. And finally this incredible photo of Tokyo and the fact that we are going to be there in only 18 days!!! Eep! So soon! Photo by Kristoffer Hakansson of Genzo Photography.

Happy weekend lovelies! XO

Party dresses!

Pretty walls.

People often get intimidated at the thought of adding retro wallpaper to their homes because they are scared that the bold print and colors will overwhelm the space, but when thinking of wallpaper sometimes it's better to think small scale. Try just wallpapering one wall or maybe even the back panel of an old hutch, so you just get a little pop of color! (We were actually thinking it would be cute to add a panel of wallpaper to the back of our DIY hutch!) Another cute idea would be to get some old picture frames and frame some retro wallpaper swatches. By doing that you can get the best of both worlds: hanging cute wallpaper on your walls that is easily changed as you please!

Here are a few prints we found on Etsy that we are absolutely loving:

The leaves are turning!

We love Autumn as much as the next person, but what we really love about it are the fabulous colors that scream Fall! Nothing is more fitting than vibrant oranges & warm shades of brown!
You put a tiny cute deer on a stack of anything and we're instantly hooked, but this set of speckled dishes are just darling!

I found a set of these a few weeks ago, but I might have to add to the collection and buy this set!

As per usual, Dalena Vintage is stocked full of beautiful pieces, like this dress!

Pretty atomic fabric!

This is the most perfect floral suitcase for Fall!

It's no secret that we're huge fans of Pyrex, but this town & country set is just plain lovely!
A pretty, mod dress in the perfect colors!

Before & After: Hutch Makeover!

Today we are going to share with you a fun little project that we have been working on for the shop! This is a simple way to give tired old furniture a face-lift! Curious? Well then take a closer look at our makeover story:

It all started while we were out thrifting one afternoon and stumbled upon this diamond in the rough at a Goodwill store. As you can see it was hidden beneath a plethora of antique dishes and doilies, but that didn't stop us from seeing the potential! We had been wanting to switch up some of the displays in our shop for awhile now so we had been keeping an eye out for an interesting new (vintage) unit. After giving it some thought we decided that we could make this piece work for us so we purchased it. Yay! Time to get to work and start brainstorming!

We started by giving the entire unit a good sanding. We did this because it helps the first coat of paint stick to the surface better. Then we gave it a coat of white primer and let it dry overnight. It is important to let the primer dry totally before you begin painting. Then it was time for the fun part - painting the hutch turquoise! (Are you surprised at our color choice? Haha, I didn't think so!) We used a bright turquoise color for the hutch and a light mint color for the drawers, all of which was done in an eggshell finish. After the unit dried overnight we moved it back to the shop and set up some fun new displays in the shelves!

Wanna see the finished product?!
Ta-da! We couldn't be happier with the end result! It looks so great in the shop and really brings a nice pop of color to the decor! It's amazing what a difference a fresh coat of paint makes!

Hope this inspires you for your next project!

Hazel Atlas

Hazel Atlas Glass Company was founded in 1902, but in the 1930's and 1940's, they started producing many patterns and it took off and they became the largest glass company in the world! They are well known for their milk glass pieces, and we can't get enough of all of the colorful, bold prints!
We love vintage sour cream glasses, but this colorful set is one of the cuter ones we've seen!

Cute little teacups!

These Hazel Atlas Crinoline dishes in pink may be the next set of dishes I start collecting (not that I need another set...)

Love the print on this set of glasses.

Super perfect salt & pepper shakers.

These fun striped mugs are perfect in red, but also come in other colors too!

We're suckers for anything with a boomerang print and these glasses are no exception!

Funny clown cups!

Things we are a lovin'!

It's Friday already?! Holy moly time flies!
Here is another round of pretty things for you lovely readers:
Super cute print!

Amazing polka dots and colors from 'Twenty-Seven Names'! That dress in the middle is perfection!
Photo found on DayDream Lily's blog!

This is the perfect little polaroid camera! On to our Christmas wishlists it goes!

We're drooling over Orla Kiely's Spring 2013 collection. You can check out more fabulous pieces here.

This cat is UNREAL. Well actually it is real, and its' name is Snoopy and she's an exotic short haired kitty that we are a tad obsessed with. We're trying to think of a master plan to bring a cat kitten home with us from Thailand...

Happy weekend!

Style Muse: Anna Karina.

Anna Karina was a popular Danish model/actress living in Paris in the 1960's. You might know her from French films such as A Woman is a Woman (1961), Vivre sa vie (1962), and Alphaville (1965). Not only was she a talented young starlet, but she also had am incredible sense of style and natural beauty. We definitely consider her to be a big style muse of ours, and we plan on taking inspiration from her when cultivating our fall/winter wardrobes! Here are a few reasons why we find her look so inspiring:

1. She knows how to pull off the perfect bob. This is a classic style that we are both huge fans of.

2. She also knows how to rock a pretty awesome beehive up-do. We love having a bit of volume in our hair with a good top knot or back-combed bump, but the height on this hairdo really takes the cake!

3. We are big suckers for anything with a bit of a nautical influence, and this outfit hits the nail on the head!

4. Bold prints & bright colors. Yes yes yes! You don't get much more sixties than that!

5. Love the sultry cat-eye look. Our make-up bags are never complete without a good, black, liquid eyeliner.

Anna Karina, you are one beautiful woman.
